Join us on Saturday the 12th of November at Musselburgh East Community Learning Centre from 9am – 1pm at our Autumn Play Training & AGM event.

We have 4 fantastic practical workshops sessions for you to choose from with a focus on loose parts play, children’s rights and sustainability – all topics that are hugely important for children’s play.

Workshops

1. Crafting with Natural & Recycled Materials

Nature based crafts are a fun way for children to connect with the natural world, learn about sustainability and biodiversity. Join Countryside Ranger, Leigh McCrum in this session for practical ideas to get you started, time to experiment and share your creations. As usual, expect a messy session with the Countryside Rangers!

2. ELPA “Whatever the Weather”

As Winter and darker nights approach, join this fun and practical loose parts play workshop led by Ethan James, ELPA’s Community Play Lead. This practical session will share top tips and ideas to support children to play outside whatever the weather.

3. Loose Parts Play: Risks & Benefits

We are delighted to welcome Senior Early Years practitioner Fiona Dryburgh to share her experiences of introducing loose parts play and a risk benefit approach across Macmerry Nursery and Primary School. This session will include Fiona’s insightful mix of theory and practise. Fiona will also be joined by some of her team to support any questions you may have.

4. Play Investigators: children’s perspectives lead their play.

Led by Silvia Veiga Seijo, a PhD student on the P4Play programme, this session will explore how we can consider children’s perspectives when supporting their play. Silvia will share some of the creative and practical methods she has developed with Play Investigators in Whitecraig and support you to develop your own methods. As we look forward to the UN convention on the Rights of the Child coming into Scottish Law, this is a timely session to support us all to listen to children’s views.

These workshops will be delivered by our fantastic invited trainers offering a broad range of fun and practical experiences and knowledge.

When you book your ticket, select workshops in order of preference. We’ll try our best to make sure you get your preferred choices, but they will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
